Women's Groups at CIAMO

This past weekend saw our first women’s group project here at CIAMO. We partnered with a NGO Impact by inviting mothers and their daughters here for a Saturday morning workshop to make books together. Eight mother/daughters teams (and even a few sons) attended. Lydia led the group in techniques for making accordion fold books, which were covered with cloth from traditional fabrics. Then each team constructed a story or compiled local sayings for the interior pages of the books which they began to illustrate with paint and colored markers and will finish at the next session.

There are many Women's Groups in Ouidah that build community, fight poverty, and generate income. CIAMO's hope is to hold classes teaching these groups new crafts that they could potentially use in the future to generate income.
